Pet Nutrition
It seems the world of pet nutrition is as contraversial as the world of human nutrition! There is still much debate as to the correct proportions of proteins, carbohydrates and fats (macro nutrients) that are considered optimal for cats and dogs. The macro nutrient breakdown table (below) is a compromise between the varying expert opinions and should be a good starting point for people interested in providing good nutrition for their pets.

We encourage you to read more on the subject of pet nutrition to determine which nutritional guideline would best suit your pet. Keep in mind that the following "rules" seem to be the general points on which animal nutritionists agree on:
- Contrary to popular belief, dogs are not solely meat eaters - like humans, they are omnivores. Omnivores eat a variety of foods which are required for optimal health and nutrition.
- Whether you feed your pet raw or cooked meat, it should come down to the quality of the meat. Often pet meat is of inferior quality, diseased or chemically treated to look fresh. If you want a healthy pet, put healthy food in their diet - organic is best.
- Grains and pulses such as brown rice and lentils should be cooked to simulate the partially digested grain found in wild animals prey.
- Unlike dogs who can actually be vegetarian with a careful diet, cats are definately carnivores - they need an amino acid called taurine in order to survive and taurine is only available from animal sources.
