This information is brought to You by The Natural Health Directory - www.thenaturalhealthdirectory.com Counselling Many people are confused between psychiatry, psychotherapy and counselling. Psychiatry is a medical field which relies heavily on manufactured drugs and surgery to control mental disorders. Psychotherapy has much of the same roots as psychiatry but developed because of a belief in a persons own enormous resources for self-regulation, self-healing and growth and it has given rise to the counselling profession. Counselling offers normal people (without mental disorders) an environment where they can air their everyday problems in a caring, non-judgemental and confidential atmosphere - counsellors will not use or prescribe mind altering drugs. Counsellors will listen to your problem and point out areas of evasion, inconsistency and neglected issues - they will not provide you with a solution, simply assist you in finding your own solution that will work for you. Counselling can be seen as an extension of a chat with a friend, it can help people who do not have a strong support structure or those who are looking for an impartial person to talk to about their problems. Many natural therapists from different modalities use counselling as a treatment option for their clients.
