Dietary Considerations

Naturopaths recommend an increase in consumption of whole foods such as:

Foods to avoid include refined sugary foods such as chocolates, cakes and soft drinks, alcohol and animal foods such as meat and dairy with the exception of yoghurt and cottage cheese. It is recommended that smaller meals be eaten 5 to 6 times per day. Try to get organic produce wherever possible. Some specific foods to consider include:

Soya Beans and Products
A heavily researched food item with substantial evidence to show that it is hormone balancing and excellent at relieving hot flushes and other menopausal discomforts.

Whole Oats and Oatmeal
They have a positive effect on the reproductive system. They are calming and thereby reduce nervous tension. Rich in B group vitamins, fat soluble vitamins and high in fibre.

Linseeds Rich in essential fatty acids, especially the omega 3’s. Good for the heart. Western diets are particularly low in omega 3 fatty acids.

Yams & Hops Yams are progesterone enhancing and hormone balancing. Hops can help protect you from bone loss.
