Reflexology

Reflexology is a holistic healing system which focuses on the application of pressure to specific points on the feet and hands. There are 7,200 nerve endings in the foot which are connected to various parts of the body and by applying pressure to a specific point, a signal is sent to the part of the body (eg. an organ) relieving stress and tension and restoring proper energy flow, thereby assisting the body in the self healing process.

Medical reports indicate that more than 75% of all ailments are attributable to stress and yet stress is one of the most common conditions in our society and also one which is most often neglected. The powerful ability of refelexology to relieve the impact of stress on our muscles, nervous system and blood supply can have profound effects on our long term health. People often say that they feel both relaxed and energised after a reflexology session.

Reflexology maps out your feet and hands into zones reflecting a certain area of your body. For example, the tops of your toes are related to the brain and the outside of your heal relates to your hips. For this reason, reflexology is sometimes referred to as “zone” therapy. Zone therapy however, is known as the pre-cursor to reflexology and involved the dividing of the entire body into 10 vertical zones. It wasn’t until the early 1930’s that a physiotherapist named Eunice Riley mapped out the reflex points in the feet, giving rise to reflexology as we know it today.
